Who needs religion anyway?

Francisco de Zurbaran (1598-1664), Still Life

To say that people need religion is like saying a thirsty man needs a cup. The cup is merely a container for what he really needs. Humans have a chronic spiritual thirst that can only be quenched by God. While religion claims to be the cup where parched people can find the God they thirst for, it has often turned out to be cracked and dry. Many religious people have found that rules and rituals don't satisfy their thirst. Jesus spoke these words to religious people: "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him" (John 7:37-38). Jesus offers us what we all need most - a relationship with God, a relationship freely given to all who trust in him, a relationship that satisfies our deepest thirst.

Reformed Presbyterian is a caring community of ordinary people. We don't pretend to know everything (let alone all there is to know about God!), but through Jesus Christ we've tasted God's love and seen His power change lives. In an atmosphere of love and acceptance, we seek to learn how to follow Jesus in our day.
